Key Points

  • In Week 12 (March 20–26, 2023), the third week following the start of the school year, emergency department visits and hospitalizations following such visits remained stable across all age groups.

  • Most respiratory indicators were stable or declining, with the exception of coughs among children under 2 years old (+32%, or +66 visits), pneumonia among 2- to 14-year-olds (+16%, or +43 visits), asthma among adults (+11%, or +118 visits), and ENT conditions among those aged 75 and older (+18%, or +21 visits).

  • Influenza was declining across all age groups. Visits for suspected COVID-19, however, continued to rise, albeit at a slower rate than in the previous two weeks, both among children (+12%, or +28 visits) and adults (+15%, or +242 visits), with a total of 2,152 visits across all age groups in Week 12 compared to 1,882 in Week 11.

  • Regarding other indicators, visits for conjunctivitis and scarlet fever remained at a high level and continued to rise among children (respectively +33%, or +120 visits, among 2- to 14-year-olds, and +77%, or +10 visits, among children under 2).
