Heat Waves and Health in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Bulletin dated July 3, 2026.

Key Points

  • A heat wave occurred from June 18, 2026, to June 28, 2026. As of June 22, 2026, three departments were placed under a red heat wave alert by Météo France (Allier, Puy-de-Dôme, and Loire). The region’s nine other departments (Ain, Ardèche, Cantal, Drôme, Isère, Haute-Loire, Rhône, Savoie, and Haute-Savoie) were placed under an orange heat wave alert.
  • A regional analysis of emergency care utilization revealed a
significant increase in the iCanicule composite health indicator (including hyperthermia
, dehydration, and hyponatremia) from the very start of the heatwave. During this
early, intense, and prolonged heatwave, the indicators of emergency care use for iCanicule reached levels not seen in recent years.
  • At the departmental level, an increase in these indicators was observed across all departments, particularly since June 22, 2026.
