Intellectual Disabilities and Emotional and Sexual Life.

This literature review highlights the fact that family and friends most often express support for a fulfilling sex life for people with disabilities. Furthermore, it has been observed that the sexual autonomy of people with intellectual disabilities is limited, and professionals and parents appear to exert significant control over their sexuality. This monitoring can lead individuals to conceal a sexual life that might otherwise not exist. People with intellectual disabilities are more frequently victims of sexual abuse and lack knowledge of best practices for a fulfilling and safe sex life.
