Antibiotic Use in the Private Sector in France, 2014–2024

Antibiotic use in the outpatient sector increased in France in 2024 compared to 2023, according to both measurement methods: expressed as the number of defined daily doses (DDD) per 1,000 inhabitants per day, consumption stood at 22.1 DDD/1,000 inhabitants/day in 2024, representing a 5.4% increase compared to 2023; expressed as the number of prescriptions per 1,000 inhabitants per year, consumption rose in 2024 to 860.4 prescriptions per 1,000 inhabitants per year, representing a 4.8% increase compared to 2023.
