Surveillance of Gastroenteritis in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of October 12, 2016.

Epidemiological Situation

Since the start of the school year, an increase in visits for gastroenteritis has been observed in emergency departments on Réunion. This trend is confirmed in private practice, where an increase in consultations for acute diarrhea has been reported by the sentinel physician network. Analysis of emergency room visits for gastroenteritis by age group shows that these visits primarily involved children under the age of 5. At the same time, data from hospital laboratories have revealed that rotavirus is the predominant virus circulating in the region. In this context, it is important to remind the public of hygiene measures to limit the spread of this disease in the population
