Surveillance of conjunctivitis in Réunion. Epidemiological update as of March 5, 2015.
Epidemiological Situation
The conjunctivitis outbreak that has been ongoing on the island since the start of the school year intensified during week 9 (February 23 to March 1, 2015). Various health indicators show an increase in consultations for conjunctivitis in both private practice and hospitals. This outbreak primarily affects those under 20 years of age but nevertheless affects all age groups. Microbiological investigations are currently underway to identify the pathogen responsible for this outbreak. Conjunctivitis has also been prevalent in Mauritius for several weeks, and a viral etiology (adenovirus) has been identified in many cases.
