Prevalence of diabetes mellitus in Réunion, 1991

Modern lifestyles and changing dietary habits create conditions conducive to the onset of diabetes. Réunion Island meets these conditions. In fact, sales of oral hypoglycemic agents have increased tenfold over the past 20 years. In 1992, 30% of dialysis patients with uremia in the department had non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.
