Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon. Epidemiological Update as of August 28, 2014.

Key Points

  • Vector-borne diseases: Since the start of enhanced surveillance for chikungunya and dengue, 124 reports of clinically suggestive cases of either disease have been received by the Languedoc-Roussillon Regional Health Agency (ARS). Of these, 52 were confirmed as chikungunya and 14 as dengue. All of these cases contracted the disease while traveling in an endemic area (imported cases). To date, no locally acquired cases have been reported in Languedoc-Roussillon.

  • Hospital and medical activity in the region: there has been a decrease in the number of emergency room visits since mid-August, a trend typically observed during this time of year.
