Key points

HIV

  • Increase in HIV testing activity (+5% in 2019 compared to 2018).

  • This increase in testing activity in 2019 was accompanied by an increase in the number of confirmed positive serology results and a rise in the positivity rate of +23% compared to 2018 (1.6 per 1,000 tests performed).

  • Men who have sex with men (MSM) born in France and heterosexuals born abroad remain the two most affected groups, accounting for 42% and 29%, respectively, of HIV-positive cases reported in 2019.

  • An upward trend in the number of people aged 50 and older is observed among new HIV diagnoses, accompanied by a decrease in the proportion of early diagnoses. This trend will need to be confirmed with data from 2020.

STI Testing

  • There was an increase in screening for syphilis (+46% compared to 2018) and Chlamydia trachomatis infections (+35% compared to 2018), though screening activity remains below the national level.

  • The screening rate for gonococcal infections was 38.5 per 1,000 inhabitants in 2019, lower than the national level.

Impact of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on HIV testing

A sharp decline in HIV testing during the lockdown months (-55% between February and April 2020).
