Bronchiolitis

In the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region: the outbreak is subsiding.

The bronchiolitis epidemic is subsiding in the region, with a decline in indicators in primary care and hospitals during week 16 of 2021:

  • 28 SOS Médecins consultations were recorded, representing 5.4% of activity among children under 2 years of age (compared to 6.5% in week 15);

  • 64 emergency department visits were recorded, representing 7% of activity among children under 2 years of age (compared to 11.4% in week 15), of which 34 were followed by hospitalization, representing 53% of bronchiolitis cases (compared to 56% in week 15); 26% of hospitalized cases were under 3 months old (compared to 42% in week 15);

  • 29% of hospitalizations among children under 2 years of age were for bronchiolitis (compared to 49% in week 15);

  • Decrease in the number of RSV cases detected by laboratories at the region’s university hospitals.
