Establishment of a regional observatory on hospital antibiotic use in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region

Since their introduction in the mid-20th century, antibiotics have revolutionized the treatment of infectious diseases. However, the emergence and proliferation of antibiotic-resistant bacteria pose the threat of a resurgence of incurable bacterial diseases. One of the factors blamed for the proliferation of these resistant strains is the widespread prescribing of anti-infective drugs. To date, no data is available regarding the prescribing rates of the most recent antibiotics at the national or regional level. This article presents a survey on antibiotic use conducted in healthcare facilities in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region.
