Health Surveillance in the Grand Est Region. Epidemiological Update as of February 9, 2017.

Key Points

Surveillance of Gastroenteritis

  • Hospital activity related to the treatment of gastroenteritis has fluctuated over the past several weeks but remains higher than the levels observed during the same period in 2016.

  • Activity at SOS Médecins clinics remains comparable to what was observed in previous years during the same period.

  • Activity related to acute diarrhea is decreasing and has fallen below the threshold for the second consecutive week within the Sentinelles Network.

  • According to data from the virology laboratories in Nancy and Strasbourg, rotavirus is currently the predominant circulating enterovirus.

Bronchiolitis Surveillance

  • For the past two weeks, bronchiolitis-related activity in emergency departments has remained stable compared to the previous week but is higher than the levels observed last year during the same period.

  • A downward trend in bronchiolitis-related activity is observed among SOS Médecins associations.

  • However, the Grand-Est region remains in an epidemic phase.

  • RSV continues to circulate in the region.

Influenza Surveillance

  • Since Week 03, there has been a decrease in influenza activity in the region’s emergency departments.

  • Influenza-related activity is also decreasing among SOS Médecins associations.

  • The Grand-Est region is in an epidemic phase.

  • Virological data also show significant circulation of the influenza A virus.

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Surveillance

  • During weeks 4 and 5, there were 10 incidents of carbon monoxide poisoning affecting 28 people.

Mortality surveillance

  • According to data available as of February 7, 2017, the significant increase in mortality observed in the Grand Est region has continued for the eighth consecutive week, but a downward trend appears to be emerging in weeks 03 and 04.
