Key Points

Enhanced Surveillance of Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika in France

  • Since surveillance ended on November 30, a summary of the 2016 season will be provided later this winter.

Surveillance of gastroenteritis

  • Gastroenteritis activity in the Grand Est region remains significantly higher than in previous years during the same period, both in emergency departments and among SOS Médecins associations.

  • After a slight decline in week 46 (November 14–20), activity in emergency departments began to rise again in week 47 (November 21–27), while activity among SOS Médecins continued its downward trend.

  • High activity is also observed within the Sentinelles Network, and the epidemic threshold for acute diarrhea has been exceeded for this network in the region.

Bronchiolitis Surveillance

  • Since week 45 (November 7–13), bronchiolitis-related activity among children under 2 years of age has increased significantly according to both data sources.

  • In week 47, the Grand Est region entered the epidemic phase

  • According to data from the virology laboratories at the Nancy and Strasbourg University Hospitals, RSV continues to circulate in the region.

Influenza surveillance

  • Since early September, influenza activity in the Grand Est region has been low according to both data sources.

  • Hospital virological data indicate the circulation of the first influenza viruses in the region.

Carbon monoxide poisoning

  • During weeks 46 and 47, there were 7 incidents of carbon monoxide poisoning involving 12 people.

Mortality Surveillance

  • According to available data, mortality rates for all ages and among people aged 75 and older observed in recent weeks are consistent with seasonal norms.
