Epidemiological Surveillance in the Lorraine Region. Update as of December 31, 2015.

Key Points

  • Despite an increase in the number of visits related to influenza and influenza-like illnesses in Week 52 at emergency departments and SOS Médecins clinics, influenza activity remains low in Lorraine. Similarly, influenza activity remains low in France and across Europe.

  • The weekly number of diagnoses and hospitalizations for bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age continues to rise. In emergency departments during week 52, 271 visits for bronchiolitis were recorded, with a hospitalization rate of 29%. This activity accounts for 23% of all diagnoses in children under 2 years of age, which is higher than the figures observed in previous years. Regarding the SOS Médecins association in Meurthe-et-Moselle, the number of bronchiolitis diagnoses was 17, remaining in line with trends from the 2014–2015 season. This condition accounts for 9.5% of SOS Médecins activity among children under 2 years of age.

  • Virology data from Nancy University Hospital for week 52 will be available in the next Epidemiological Report, week 1 2016.

  • In Lorraine, activity related to gastroenteritis in the emergency departments of the OSCOUR® network and within the SOS Médecins association of Meurthe-et-Moselle has increased compared to the previous week. With 171 diagnoses made in week 52 in emergency departments, this activity accounted for 1.45% of all diagnoses. Doctors from the SOS Médecins de Meurthe-et-Moselle association made 84 diagnoses of gastroenteritis and diarrhea, which equates to nearly 7.6% of total diagnoses.

  • Analysis of carbon monoxide poisoning outbreaks is not available for week 52 and will resume in week 1 of 2016.
