Health Monitoring in the Bourgogne and Franche-Comté Regions. Update as of September 8, 2022.

Key Points

COVID-19

  • The slowdown in viral circulation continues during the first week of the new school year. The incidence and positivity rates continue to decline (IR = 163 vs. 171 per 100,000 population in Week 1 and PP = 18.4% vs. 19.8% in Week 1). Nevertheless, the indicators remain at a high level.

  • Regarding hospital activity, the number of new hospitalizations is stable, while the number of new critical care admissions and deaths is decreasing.

  • The Omicron variant is circulating exclusively in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (100% of RT-PCR samples sequenced in S34). The latest available screening data suggest that the BA.5 sublineage is the overwhelming majority (89%) in the region. Interpretation is limited by the small number of sequenced samples available for recent weeks.

  • With the start of the school year, adherence to combined measures is essential, particularly to protect the most vulnerable populations: it remains necessary to self-isolate in the event of symptoms and a positive COVID-19 test. It is essential for individuals to follow preventive measures, including wearing a mask (around vulnerable people and in crowded indoor spaces, particularly on public transportation or at large gatherings), washing hands, and frequently ventilating enclosed spaces.

Extreme heat, heat wave

  • No unusual increase in activity at emergency departments or SOS Médecins clinics in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.

  • Indicators of heat-related illnesses remain at low levels.

Monkeypox

  • The region has recorded 29 confirmed cases to date, representing less than 1% of cases reported in France.
