Status as of 2024

  • 25% of deaths certified electronically in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (49% in France) in 2024, ranging from 10% in Nièvre to 36% in Saône-et-Loire

  • Electronic certification is more widely implemented in public and private healthcare facilities (38% and 63%, respectively) than in other locations where deaths occur (vs. 19% in facilities housing dependent elderly individuals, Ehpad), but electronic certification rates remain far below those of a neighboring region such as Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (90% and 85%, respectively, vs. 56% in nursing homes)

  • Electronic death certification remains underutilized in homes and on public roads (5%) and could be facilitated by connecting municipalities to the HuBEE portal

Use of Data

Electronic certification data can be used for surveillance:

  • to measure the impact of epidemics such as COVID-19 or the flu
