Virological surveillance

  • Private laboratories: 608 positive tests in S18 (1,319 in S17)

  • Hospital laboratories: 409 positive tests in S18 (708 in S17)

Community-based surveillance

  • SOS Médecins: 531 cases of suspected COVID-19 per 10,000 in Week 18 (770 per 10,000 in Week 17)

  • Sentinelles Network: 60 consultations for acute respiratory infections per 100,000 inhabitants in S18 (63 per 100,000 in S17)

Surveillance in long-term care facilities, including nursing homes

  • 11,593 confirmed or probable cases (residents and staff), including 1,497 deaths reported as of May 5, 2020

Hospital surveillance

  • Emergency departments: 326 visits for suspected COVID-19 per 10,000 in Week 18 (447 per 10,000 in Week 17)

  • SI-VIC: 2,299 people hospitalized, including 296 in intensive care as of May 6, 2020

  • Sentinel intensive care units: 58% of cases are aged 65 and older, 73% are men, 71% have ARDS, and 63% of cases have at least one risk factor.

Mortality monitoring

  • Excess mortality from all causes is lower in week 17 (+6%) than in previous weeks and not significant as of May 5.

  • 67% of those who died in the hospital are over 80 years old.

  • 1,437 deaths in hospitals and 1,118 deaths in long-term care facilities related to COVID-19
