Epidemiological Situation of Chikungunya in the Caribbean. Update as of January 23, 2014.

Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation

Chikungunya virus circulation remains very active in Saint Martin; it is intensifying in Saint Barthélemy, where there continues to be a steady increase in the number of reported cases. Both territories remain in Phase 3a of the Psage* chikungunya alert system: Epidemic Situation. In Martinique, all epidemiological indicators point to an intensification of viral circulation. On January 23, Martinique was also placed in Phase 3a: epidemic situation. In Guadeloupe, viral circulation is intensifying. The outbreak identified in Baie-Mahault remains active. This department remains in Phase 2a of the Psage: moderate local transmission. In French Guiana, the number of reported suspected cases remains moderate. No local transmission of the virus has been detected to date. French Guiana remains in Phase 1 (enhanced) of the Psage.
