Dengue Surveillance in the Caribbean. Update as of March 2, 2023.

Key Points

  • Guadeloupe is experiencing a resurgence of confirmed dengue cases, with an ongoing outbreak in the municipality of Saint-François and isolated cases of dengue identified in other municipalities across the archipelago. According to the PSAGE dengue system, the epidemiological situation corresponds to Phase 2, Level 1: Isolated outbreaks or outbreaks with no epidemiological link(s). The DENV-2 serotype has been identified and corresponds to the one that was predominant during the last dengue epidemic in 2019–2021.

  • In Martinique, the presence of an active outbreak in the municipality of Sainte-Anne identified in late January 2023 and the occurrence of sporadic dengue cases in 5 other municipalities indicate localized circulation of the virus. According to the PSAGE* dengue guidelines, following consultation with the Technical Committee for Dengue Monitoring, the epidemiological situation corresponds to Phase 2, Level 1: Isolated outbreaks or outbreaks with no epidemiological link(s). The DENV-2 serotype has been identified by the CHUM virology laboratory, whereas the DENV-3 serotype was the predominant strain circulating in 2019–2021.

  • In Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy, the situation is calm. Various factors (rainy season, traveler traffic, major events) can quickly lead to a deterioration of the epidemiological situation.
