Key Points

Asthma at the Start of the School Year

  • In S39, the number of asthma cases among children under 15 increased at SOS Médecins and in emergency departments, returning to a level similar to that typically observed in previous years.

Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika

  • In Corsica, since May 1, two imported cases of dengue have been confirmed (the most recent in Week 35).

Acute Respiratory Infections

  • Surveillance for acute respiratory infections begins this week (Week 40). However, in some regions of mainland France, an increase in influenza and/or COVID-19 activity has already been observed over the past few weeks. 
  • Influenza and influenza-like illnesses: baseline level. Very low activity at SOS Médecins and in emergency departments.
  • COVID-19: A slight increase in activity at SOS Médecins and in emergency departments over the past few weeks, but activity remains very low.

Mortality

  • During Week 38, the number of deaths from all causes, based on INSEE civil registry data, remained within the usual range of fluctuation in Corsica.
  • The number of all-cause deaths certified electronically in Week 39 also remained in the same range as that typically observed (with numbers being low and fluctuating in Corsica) (graphs not shown for both sources).
