Heat and Health

Météo France issued an orange heat wave alert for the island’s two departments on August 27, and this fourth heat wave of the season ended on August 29.

Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika

A new imported case of dengue fever was reported in S35 in Corsica, bringing the total number of imported dengue cases in Corsica since the start of the season to 2. No imported cases of chikungunya or Zika have been reported since the start of the season.

Asthma at the Start of the School Year

Every year, during the two weeks following the start of the school year, a spike in emergency care visits for asthma is observed among children under 15 years of age.
Starting this week, the bulletin will include a track of asthma-related visits among children based on an analysis of OSCOUR® and SOS Médecins indicators.

Mortality

During Week 34, the number of deaths from all causes, based on INSEE civil registry data, remained within the usual range of fluctuation in Corsica.

Data from electronic death certificates for all causes in Week 35 also remained within the usual range, as the numbers are low and fluctuate in Corsica (graphs not shown for either source).
