Containment of polioviruses in the laboratory.

Once global eradication has been achieved and declared, and after the use of the oral vaccine has ceased, laboratories that use or store the poliovirus will become the sole source of potential contamination, posing a risk to laboratory staff and the general public. This risk will increase over time, as the current high level of immunization will not necessarily be maintained. (Introduction)
