At work: taking steps within the organization to promote mental health.

The mental health of working people is at risk when the pursuit of economic performance is pursued without any consideration for humanistic or social values. To counter these risks, the workplace must adopt so-called “healthy” organizational practices, as has been developed over the past decade in Finland and other Scandinavian countries. An employee who feels well at work is thus able to function optimally within a team. As a group of European researchers has demonstrated, maintaining the ability to find fulfillment in one’s professional environment determines everything else. Implementing a workplace well-being policy means creating supportive spaces for dialogue, facilitating discussions that clarify the nature of tensions experienced collectively or individually, and then constructively reflecting on the best ways to reduce them.
