Occupational Health Alert Group (GAST): Implementation of the occupational health alert system

Occupational Health Alert Groups (GAST) are responsible for coordinating the regional response to reports of unusual health events in the workplace. Each GAST is composed of occupational health experts, including representatives from: - the Occupational Health Inspection Unit of the Regional Directorate for Enterprises, Competition, Consumer Affairs, Labor, and Employment (DIRECCTE); - the Occupational Pathology Consultation (CPP); - the French Institute for Public Health Surveillance (InVS): the occupational health department and the relevant Interregional Epidemiology Unit (Cire), which coordinates the group; - potentially other bodies such as the Pension and Occupational Health Insurance Fund (Carsat), the Poison Control Center... The Gast coordinates with the regional health surveillance and emergency platforms located within the Regional Health Agencies (ARS). Following the Aquitaine region, which has served as a pilot since 2008, several regions have decided to implement this alert system: Languedoc-Roussillon, Pays de la Loire, Auvergne, and Midi-Pyrénées in 2011, and Lorraine, Centre, and Nord-Pas-de-Calais in 2012.
