In the Indian Ocean region, 7 weeks after the start of the school year in Réunion and 6 weeks in Mayotte, the number of emergency department visits for asthma has decreased slightly (63 visits vs. 74 in Week 38) and the proportion of activity remains stable at around 5%. The proportion of hospitalizations following visits is on the rise: 32% in Week 39 vs. 23% in Week 38. The observed level is comparable to that of previous years.
Nationally, in the fifth week of school in mainland France and for the Antilles/Guyana region, asthma-related visits among children under 15 are down in the SOS Médecins network (-9%, or -64 visits) and stable in emergency departments (+2%, or +58 visits, with a 25% hospitalization rate following visits vs. 27% in Week 38) (Table 2). The levels observed remain comparable to or even lower than those of the past three years.
