Asthma Health Monitoring - Back-to-School 2019. Weekly Update for September 17, 2019.
In week 37 (September 9–15, 2019),
nationwide, during the second week of school, there was a sharp increase in emergency room visits and calls to SOS Médecins for asthma compared to the previous week (up 170%, or 1,434 visits, and up 158%, or 330 cases, respectively), and the proportion of hospitalizations following an asthma-related visit rose from 27% to 30%. The shares of activity are 3.3% and 2.7%, respectively, slightly lower than those observed in the previous two years.
In the Indian Ocean, for the fourth week of school, emergency room visits for asthma among children are down compared to week 36 and account for 5.7% of total activity. These figures are comparable to those observed during the two previous school years. The proportion of hospitalizations following a visit has stabilized at 21%.
