Santé publique France is France’s national public health agency. A public institution under the supervision of the Minister of Health, created through the merger of several public institutions by Order 2016-246 of April 15, 2016, the agency works to promote public health. As a scientific, expert, and public health safety agency, its missions include:

  1. Epidemiological observation and monitoring of the health status of the population; 
  2. Monitoring health risks threatening the population; 
  3. Promoting health and reducing health risks; 
  4. Developing prevention and health education; 
  5. Preparation for and response to health threats, alerts, and crises; 
  6. Issuing health alerts.
     

The agency is organized into 12 scientific, cross-functional, or support divisions.

The agency’s strategic priorities and work program, established by its Board of Directors, are organized into three areas: Strengthening the capacity for anticipation and rapid response to address health threats; Measuring and assessing the extent of diseases and risk factors to guide their prevention and control; Strengthening the health impact of all public policies and the prevention and promotion of health.

Job Description

The successful candidate will, in collaboration with other epidemiologists in the unit and at Santé publique France and under the supervision of the unit head, carry out the following activities in the field of arboviruses, chikungunya, dengue, Zika, and West Nile virus, as well as foodborne infections, for which they will serve as the primary or secondary epidemiologist, depending on the specific topic.

Activities 

  • Activities Epidemiological surveillance:
    • Management of mandatory reports (MR) of collective foodborne illnesses 
    • Validation of data in collaboration with the ARS and Regional Centers (CR), collection of data—particularly microbiological data—from partners (National Reference Centers (CNR), Directorate General for Food, etc.) and integration with epidemiological data
    • Data quality control, maintaining the DO TIAC, DO, and Voozarbo databases for Chikungunya, dengue, Zika, and West Nile virus (specific data cleaning and recoding) for the purposes of reactive surveillance
    • Conducting analyses of surveillance data on foodborne illnesses and arboviruses and producing summaries, reports, and website updates
  • Methodological support to ARS and regional units for the investigation of foodborne illnesses and foodborne infection outbreaks
  • Contribution to the working group for the development of guidelines and tools for investigating outbreaks and foodborne illness for Regional Centers (CRs) and Regional Health Agencies (ARS)
  • Contribution to epidemiological studies useful for characterizing foodborne infectious risks (burden of infection, risk factors, source attribution), studies conducted as part of the response to arbovirus outbreaks
  • Participation in surveillance and European and international projects (ECDC, EFSA, OIE, WHO) Contribution to the drafting of articles
  • The successful candidate may be called upon to provide support in responding to other alerts and emergencies within the unit; they will also participate in Santé publique France on-call duties and contribute to any actions falling within the Agency’s mandate if necessary during a crisis, within the scope of their expertise
