In Week 29, the epidemiological situation continued to deteriorate across the country as social distancing measures were lifted.

  • Very sharp increase in the incidence rate

  • Increase in hospitalizations and admissions to intensive care

  • Mainland France:

    • Incidence rate exceeding 200 per 100,000 inhabitants in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Corsica, Occitanie, and Nouvelle-Aquitaine

    • Hospitalization rates rising sharply in most regions

  • Overseas territories:

    • Highest incidence rate in Martinique and high viral circulation in Réunion, Guadeloupe, and French Guiana

    • High hospitalization rates in Martinique, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, and Réunion

Variants

  • 82.8% of cases identified as the Delta variant through sequencing in mainland France as of July 13

Contact tracing

  • Decrease in the proportion of new cases previously identified as contacts, indicating fewer identified transmission chains

  • Sharp increase in the number of cases reporting having visited a gathering place

Prevention

  • Vaccination coverage as of July 25: 60.7% for one dose and 50.8% for full vaccination

  • CoviPrev survey from July 15 to 21:

    • Decrease in adherence to all preventive measures since May

    • Increase in intentions to get vaccinated since June

    • Importance of combined measures: vaccination, preventive measures, and contact tracing
