Key Points

In Week 1, SARS-CoV-2 circulation increased to a high level

  • Sharp increase in the number of confirmed cases, most pronounced among those under 20

  • Increased testing activity among symptomatic individuals • Upward trend in hospitalizations and ICU admissions

  • Most affected regions: Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Grand Est, and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

Mortality

  • COVID-19-related mortality remains high

Emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants

  • 66 cases of infection with the VOC 202012/01 variant (United Kingdom) and 3 cases of infection with the 501Y.V2 variant (South Africa) have been identified

Prevention

  • Vaccination: 247,166 people vaccinated as of January 13, 2021

  • Individual prevention measures and contact reduction must continue

  • If symptoms develop, immediate isolation is required, and a test should be performed as soon as possible
