COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for December 3, 2020

Key Points

  • Continued significant decline in SARS-CoV-2 circulation following the peak of the second wave:

    • Continued decline in all indicators in urban areas and hospitals

    • Most affected regions: Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur

  • Mortality:

    • Mortality remains high

    • Particularly marked excess mortality in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes between weeks 44 and 47

  • Prevention:

    • Intention to get vaccinated against COVID-19: 53% of respondents in the general population (CoviPrev Survey, early November), 68% of self-employed professionals

    • Systematic adoption of hygiene and contact-reduction measures: remains at a high level, though room for improvement (CoviPrev Survey, late November)

    • If symptoms develop, immediate isolation is required, and a test should be taken as soon as possible

  • Mental health:

    • Continued increase in the prevalence of depressive disorders since late September among respondents (+12 percentage points), particularly among young people and students
