Key Points

In Week 51, SARS-CoV-2 continued to circulate at high levels.

  • Increase in the number of confirmed cases (+23%)

  • Very sharp increase in testing activity (+74%), mainly among asymptomatic individuals

  • New hospitalizations and ICU admissions stabilized at a high level

  • Most affected regions: Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Grand Est

Mortality

  • High mortality in France, with very high excess mortality in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

Prevention (CoviPrev study, mid-December 2020)

  • Decline in intention to get vaccinated against COVID-19

  • Decrease in adherence to contact-reduction measures

Mental health (CoviPrev study, mid-December 2020)

  • Persistently high levels of anxiety and depression in the population

> Individual prevention and contact-reduction measures must be maintained.
> If symptoms develop, immediate isolation is required, and a test should be taken as soon as possible.
> Facilitate access to information on COVID-19 vaccination.
