Our healthcare system is struggling to cover the last mile [Interview]

To curb the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, crisis management initially prioritized eliminating the risk rather than minimizing it. This approach revealed structural weaknesses in France’s public health system, which failed to adopt a population-based approach better suited to addressing social health inequalities. To reduce these inequalities, local authorities—which have several levers at their disposal that influence health determinants—should be more closely involved in the future.
