The children of essential workers experienced greater psychological distress

Parents’ work situations played a role in the decline in children’s mental health during the first lockdown, when schools were closed, according to the Confeado study. Children of frontline workers—excluding healthcare professionals for whom in-person classes were organized—were thus more exposed to social media and felt more overwhelmed by homework than other children, two factors associated with severe psychological distress.
