Housing is a major determinant of public health. Scientific studies have demonstrated the links between people’s health, the quality of their housing, and where they live. This issue presents a summary of the current understanding of housing’s role among health determinants, substandard housing, and several innovative initiatives and programs designed to facilitate access to and retention of decent housing.
