Mental Health, Physical Health, and Limitations in Activities of Daily Living: A Population-Based Study Using Data from the 2010 Health Barometer.

Impaired mental and/or physical health can have varying impacts on people’s daily lives, both on an individual and social level, and depending on whether or not they have a chronic illness. These impairments can lead to limitations in activities of daily living (ADLs). Despite the lack of empirical data, these ADL limitations are more intuitively associated with impaired physical health than with impaired mental health. The use of the U.S. “Centers for Disease Control Health-related Quality of Life 4” (CDC HRQOL-4) questionnaire allowed us not only to compare our findings with U.S. data but also to study this issue.
