Why and how should we combat stigma in mental health?

Stigma surrounding mental health has a significant impact on the daily lives of those affected. While societal perceptions of mental illness have evolved over the past few decades, stigma remains very strong. Various initiatives are working to combat this stigma, including advocacy and educational efforts, as well as initiatives based on individual contact with people living with mental health conditions.
