Screens in the Lives of Elementary School Children

The Enabee study (2022) by Santé publique France sheds light on screen use among children as young as 3 years old, with an average of 1 hour and 22 minutes per day for children aged 3–5 and up to 2 hours and 33 minutes for those aged 9–11 in elementary school. Television remains the preferred choice for 3- to 11-year-olds, but smartphones and video game consoles are gaining ground, especially among children aged 9 and older. Social inequalities are pronounced: children from families with lower educational attainment spend more time on screens and are more likely to have a screen in their bedroom.
