In Saint-Martin-d'Hères, the voices of the "silent residents" are finally being heard.

They are known as the "silent residents." They are isolated and do not participate in any surveys, and certainly not in participatory health assessments. As part of the Saint-Martin-d’Hères Health-City Workshop in Isère, an action research project launched in 2010 surveyed some fifty residents, as well as professionals and volunteers. Among them were older adults. First finding: mobility difficulties and isolation have the detrimental effect of reducing access to care and, more broadly, to health. These "silent ones" emphasize that the bonds forged with local professionals and caregivers are the primary lever for breaking their isolation.
