Pathological gambling: a real addiction, without drugs.

The “Addiction Treatment and Prevention” plan, presented in late 2006 by the Ministry of Health, brought the issue of pathological gambling to the forefront. The severe lack of epidemiological data has led to a call for clinical studies and research. The Vénisse Report on non-drug addictions recommends the creation of one regional reference center per region—a center to provide support and guidance to “addicted gamblers” in distress and their families. At least six hundred thousand French people are “addicted” to pathological gambling (video games, betting, etc.).
