The Local Mental Health Council: A New Tool for Empowering Service Users?

Over the past decade, local mental health councils have been established in cities across France. To date, more than 100 cities have such councils, and about 20 are considering establishing them. These councils generally bring together professionals, elected officials, and service users. They carry out local initiatives to address mental health needs (such as access to and retention of housing, social integration, etc.) and are undeniably a framework for fostering patient empowerment.
