Hospitalization and Support to Help Children Return to School [Interview].

Within the Le Havre hospital group, a team provides inpatient care for young people aged 12 to 18 who have dropped out of school and are experiencing severe psychological distress. Their refusal to attend school reflects other difficulties—particularly family-related ones—that manifest as somatic symptoms. Hospitalization is accompanied by a re-enrollment program involving a psychiatrist, psychologist, and teacher, with a particular focus on therapeutic group workshops. The adolescent is actively involved, as are the parents; many of whom, having also experienced these academic difficulties, struggle to cope when their child drops out of school.
