Empowerment in Mental Health: Recommendations, Definitions, Indicators, and Examples of Best Practices.

Nicolas Daumerie, a psychologist and project officer at the WHO Collaborating Center for Mental Health Research and Training, defines the concept of empowerment and presents the joint WHO-European Commission program on empowerment in mental health. As part of this initiative, approximately 100 “best practices” have been identified across Europe. They all share a common thread, which a British expert summarizes as follows: “We cannot be ‘emancipated’ by others; we can only ‘emancipate’ ourselves.”
