Adversity During Childhood and Mental Health in Adulthood.
Numerous scientific studies show that children and adolescents who experience difficult life events may have impaired health or social adjustment in adulthood. The main adversities identified during childhood include family breakdowns and violence, parents’ mental health issues, and difficult socioeconomic conditions. Health promotion interventions can break this cycle and highlight the expected benefits of addressing symptoms of psychological distress from an early age, helping adults recognize traumatic events from their childhood, and, for parents, providing support to help them with parenting.
