2003 Vaccination Coverage Survey

Survey on vaccination coverage following the meningococcal C vaccination campaign in the Landes, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, and Hautes-Pyrénées regions, May

This survey, conducted by the InVS in coordination with the relevant DDASS and DRASS offices, was part of a broader evaluation aimed at assessing the impact of the meningococcal C vaccination campaign carried out that same year. A two-stage survey was conducted among young people aged 6 to 20 in schools across each department. The sample was stratified according to geographic zones defined based on the presence of IIM C cases. Data were collected via self-administered questionnaires. For primary school children vaccinated during the campaign, vaccination coverage was 87.5% in the Landes, 78.7% in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, and 82.0% in the Hautes-Pyrénées. For secondary school students vaccinated during the campaign, coverage rates were 86.2% in the Landes, 80.4% in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, and 83.7% in the Hautes-Pyrénées. Taking into account vaccinations prior to the campaign, vaccination coverage in elementary and secondary schools was 94.1%–93.7% in the Landes, 91.6%–87.7% in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, and 87.7%–87.1% in the Hautes-Pyrénées, respectively. The authors noted the high level of public participation in this emergency vaccination campaign, with the main reasons for non-vaccination being fear of vaccine side effects. They emphasized the value of the survey method, whose results depend on the organizational conditions of the vaccination campaign and which allows for an accurate estimate of pre-campaign coverage.
