2000 Vaccination Coverage Survey

Vaccination Coverage Survey in French Guiana, October

This survey, conducted by the InVS Regional Unit (Cire Antilles Guyane) with support from epidemiologists at the InVS Vaccine-Preventable Diseases Unit and in collaboration with the DDASS and the General Council of French Guiana, aimed to estimate vaccination coverage for recommended vaccinations across different age groups and in both regions of French Guiana, the coastal region and the interior. In the coastal region, the cluster sampling method used by the WHO for evaluating Expanded Programmes on Immunization was selected. In the interior region, all school-aged children belonging to the study population were selected (exhaustive sampling) based on enrollment lists in primary schools. Information was collected by a field investigator using a vaccination record. The extensive results of this survey are presented in a report available online. The survey revealed insufficient coverage for certain antigens and, in general, lower coverage rates in inland municipalities compared to coastal areas. Recommendations to improve these coverage rates were formulated.
