Cases of tuberculosis reported in France in 2010.

The data presented here pertain to cases of active tuberculosis reported in France during 2010. The number of tuberculosis cases reported in 2010 was 5,187 (8.1 per 100,000), representing a 1.7% decrease compared to 2009 (8.2 per 100,000). As in previous years, the regions with the highest reporting rates were Île-de-France (16.3/105,000) and French Guiana (15.9/105,000). Reporting rates in all other regions were below 10 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Reporting rates were high (>50/105) among homeless individuals and those born abroad, particularly in countries with high tuberculosis prevalence. Tuberculosis surveillance data show a decline in reported cases in 2009 and 2010. However, the increase in case rates in a number of departments in the Île-de-France region, even if very limited, and the high rates observed in certain population groups should serve as a reminder not to relax efforts to combat tuberculosis in a context of significant disparities.
