In the face of the tobacco lobby, providing credible and scientifically verified public health information
How should we provide information about tobacco? On this public health issue, as on all others, there is, on the one hand, information provided by the tobacco industry, and on the other, information provided by public health advocates. Lobbyists and counter-lobbyists have been locked in a battle for decades, defending diametrically opposed interests. Professor Gérard Dubois is deeply involved in public health lobbying against tobacco. He points out that industry lobbying is just as powerful as before but much more discreet. This lobbying often relies on mouthpieces, which may be organizations created from scratch to defend the industry’s perspective.
