Key Points

• In Week 01 (December 30, 2024, to January 5, 2025), compared to the previous week, emergency room visits rose slightly among adults (+3.1%, or +9,539 visits), particularly among those aged 75 and older. They declined among children. Hospitalizations following a visit increased among those over 75 years of age (+5%, or +1,479 hospitalizations following a visit) and remained stable or decreased in other age groups.

• The increase in visits for influenza/flu-like illness continues among children under 2 years of age (+11%, or +243 visits) and among adults (+20%, or +2,057 visits).

• Most other seasonal respiratory indicators are also on the rise among adults. In particular, there has been an increase in visits:

  • among those over 15 years of age for pneumonia (+22%, or +1,827 visits)

  • among those over 75 for acute bronchitis (+31%, or +244 visits), ENT infections (+23%, or +52 visits), and asthma (+19%, or +37 visits).

• There is also an increase in visits for dyspnea/respiratory failure (+18%, or +437 visits) among those over 75 years of age.

• Among children under 2 years of age, visits for bronchiolitis have declined for the third consecutive week (-15%, or -539 visits).

• Among other indicators, there was an increase in visits across all age groups for suicide attempts (+16%, or +208 visits), among those aged 2–14 for trauma (+8%, or +884 visits), among those aged 15–74 for chest pain (+7%, or +660 visits), and among those over 75 for cardiac decompensation (+14%, or +264 visits).
