Key Points

• In Week 05 (January 27–February 2, 2025), emergency department visits remained stable compared to the previous week for both children (down 2%, or 1,767 visits) and adults (up 1%, or 3,069 visits). Hospitalizations following emergency department visits decreased among people aged 75 and older (-6%, or -1,834 hospitalizations) and remained stable in other age groups.

• Visits for influenza/flu-like illness are down compared to the previous week across all age groups (-11%, or -2,148 visits across all ages). The percentage of activity among children (9.3% of total activity) remains higher than in the past three years.

• While visits for acute bronchitis are also decreasing across all age groups (-8%, or -198 visits across all ages), visits continue to rise for pneumonia among children (+12%, or +83 visits) and for upper respiratory tract conditions among adults (+8%, or +284 visits). Visits remain stable for asthma attacks across all age groups and for upper respiratory tract conditions in children. Among children under 2 years of age, visits for bronchiolitis decreased compared to the previous week (-6%, or -92 visits).

• Among other indicators, there was an increase in visits for conjunctivitis among adults (+11%, or +53 visits) and among those aged 15–74 for neurological problems (+6%, or +435 visits) and vomiting (+7%, or +80 visits). In contrast, visits related to digestive conditions decreased among children: acute gastroenteritis (-7%, or -240 visits), vomiting among 2- to 14-year-olds (-8%, or -106 visits), and abdominal pain (-5%, or -278 visits).
