Preventing Antibiotic Resistance: A "One Health" Approach. November 2025

The fight against antibiotic resistance is being waged at multiple levels—international, national, regional, and local—and on multiple fronts: research, monitoring of resistance and its evolution, infection prevention, and the promotion of prudent antibiotic use. For several years now, actions have been implemented in human health, animal health, and the environment. However, a siloed approach is no longer sufficient: public policies and scientific initiatives are increasingly adopting a more comprehensive and interconnected vision across sectors, driven by the "One Health" concept. Despite the progress made, further efforts remain essential to strengthen coherence between sectors and maximize the impact of the actions undertaken. This summary provides an overview of the main surveillance findings and prevention measures implemented in France, whether regarding infection prevention or the appropriate use of antibiotics. It highlights initiatives in three areas—human health, animal health, and the environment—and underscores the importance of sustained efforts to preserve the effectiveness of antibacterial treatments.
